01 / ABOUT THE PLACE
About this place
A caramel-like aroma rises from a glass of amber American amber ale, followed by the clean bitterness of hops. At Ushigome Beer Kan, freshly brewed beer from Shingetsu Beer, the brewery just behind the restaurant, is served on tap. The blackboard lists a range of styles, from the flagship amber ale to pale ale with inviting citrus notes and a rich stout.
A tasting set lets you choose 3 beers in 150ml glasses, making it easy to explore different flavours. Short, regular and pint sizes are also available, so stopping by at dusk for just 1 beer is easy. Straightforward snacks such as freshly fried potatoes and karaage (Japanese-style fried chicken) make good companions for a glass.
A homely lunch spot by day, a beer hall by night
One of the place’s distinctive features is its daytime identity as a set-meal restaurant. Lunch options include shoyu- and miso-flavoured ramen, udon dishes, and a natto set meal that can be served with mini ramen instead of miso soup. These are homely flavours that have long been enjoyed in the neighbourhood.
Tables and counter seats by the window make for a relaxed, casual setting. Whether you are after a warm lunch or want to enjoy fresh, house-brewed beer in the evening, you can drop in without any fuss.
